The Amber Road passes through a very special piece of Austria. It is the most eastern part of the country, a landscape not dominated by mountains, but wide plains and soft hills, often covered with vineyards - the Weinviertel.
The old trade route connects two provinces: Lower Austria, the historic heartland of the nation which surrounds Vienna, and the Burgenland, the youngest of the 9 provinces. 1921 it became part of Austria.
Travelling along the Amber Road in Austria is more than a trip along a historic path. Some of the most important archeological sites, museums and monuments of Austria are connected by this ancient corridor.
