Amber gave the name to the most important North-South connection of Central Europe. The ancient trade route coalesces countries and nations between the Baltic and the Mediterrenean Sea and traveling along Amber Road is discovering European history and culture. Museums, archeological sites, monumental castles, splendid palaces and historic cities are linked through this route. From St. Petersburg, capital of the Russian Tsars, till the outskirts of Venice the Amber Road connects some of the most attractive Tourism Destinations of Europe.

St. Petersburg

Riga

Kaliningrad Amber Factory

Jantarny was the largest amber pit worldwide, more than 90 % of the amber-production came from here. The pit was closed and flooded 2002.

Malbork Castle

Archaeological Park Biskupin
The 2700 years old fortress of Biskupin, also known as the "Polish Pompeji" because of its location at a lake, is located at the trail of the historical amber road. 
Kórnik Palace

The 600 year old Kornik palace was rebuilt in the 19th century in Neogothic style, the design came from the famous architect Carl Friedrich Schinkel. Today the palace houses state-rooms and the famous Kornika Library.

 
Rogalin Palace and Gardens
Rogalin was the residence of the princes Raczynski. Today the 18th century palace houses parts of the Poznan National Gallery.  
Kalisz

Kalisz is the oldest Polish town. In the year 150 A.D. the Greek geographer Claudius Ptolemeus explicitly mentions a town Calisia in his "Geography Outline" and this town is identified with today’s Kalisz.

 
Wroclaw

Bouzov Castle

Esterháza
The primary hunting lodge at Fertod was converted into one of the largest and most beautiful mansions in Hungary between 1760-67 by Miklos Esterhazy. It has some 126 rooms, an opera house, and is situated in 250 acres of French style gardens. 
Sopron Municipal Museum
Scarbantia - the Roman name of Sopron - was one of the border stations of the Province of Pannonia in the Roman Empire. Its outstanding importance was due to its situation upon an important commercial route.  
Szombathely Savaria

Szombathely, the Roman Savaria, was founded 43 AD by Claudius Caesar. Because of its location upon the Roman Road the settlement became soon the centre of the administration of the province Pannonia.

Regional Museum Ptuj
Poetovium / Ptuj was founded by the Romans 2000 years ago. The historic city with beautiful medieval and renaissance buildings is crowned by the Ptuj castle.
